  1. The European hotel landscape is undergoing significant changes, and these changes are being shaped by Hyatt. It plans to open 20 new hotels by 2023, adding to the 63 hotels it already operates under nine different brands in 22 countries — this equates to an expansion of more than 30%. Independent hotel owners are also looking to work with big brands with strong sales channels more than ever before, and this is where Hyatt comes in. It will also be opening up new markets with first hotels in Stockholm, Helsinki, Malta and Cyprus, and one can be sure it won’t be stopping there.
  2. It may have had to abandon its iconic slogan — “It’s Finger Lickin’ Good” — during the coronavirus pandemic as it was no longer appropriate, but it has coped well through the crisis. And now, KFC has massive expansion plans for Germany: it plans to expand by 62% and open over 100 new branches by 2025, meaning that by then every German city with at least 40,000 inhabitants will be able to get its fix. On this note, it’s expanding primarily into rural regions, meaning you could soon see a distant Colonel Sanders instead of endless fields from your bedroom window.
  3. Electric scooters seem to be the latest craze in European cities: everywhere you look in Paris there’s someone on a Lime scooter, for example. And Voi, having raised 160 million dollars, is going from strength to strength and will continue to expand. Backed by investors such as Amazon and Delivery Hero, Voi is a leader in the European transport market, which is seeing a rapid increase in the popularity of electric scooters such as the company’s latest model — the Voiager 4 — which it wants as many cities as possible to be equipped with. Forget the metro or the bus; it’s all about electric scooters now.
